GIS Steering Committee Becoming GIS Council of NITC
As a result of action by the 2008 Nebraska Legislature the Nebraska GIS Steering Committee is now becoming the GIS Council of the Nebraska Information Technology Commission (NITC). The basic legislative mandate of the new NITC GIS Council remains essentially the same as the previous Nebraska GIS Steering Committee, but it will now be more closely integrated into Nebraska's overall evolving IT coordination structure.
Funding secured for technical staff lead for Nebraska Geospatial Data Sharing and Web Services Network. We are currently working with the UNL School of Natural Resources in an effort to fill this Senior GIS Specialist position (click on "Search Job Openings" and then search for "GIS"). Please help let qualified individuals be aware of this opportunity.
New statewide imagery, 2006 1-meter, full-color, DOQs for the Farm Services Agency, USDA, is now available through the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. The compressed MrSID county files and the JPEG quarter quad files are available for download. Due to the large total size of the data, if someone is wanting to get a copy of all of the JPEGs for the entire state, it is recommended that you contact Gayle Follmer at NDNR to arrange alternative means of transfer. Thanks to the following partners for helping to make this new imagery available:
- USDA Farm Services Agency
- Nebraska Department of Natural Resources
- Nebraska Department of Roads
- Nebraska Association of Resources Districts
- Nebraska Public Power District
- Nebraska Department of Revenue - Property Assessment and Taxation Division
- Metropolitan Area Planning Agency
- Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality
- Nebraska State Surveyors Office
- Nebraska Emergency Management Agency
- Nebraska Office of the CIO
